Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall D-
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureB-
The Chiefs got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D-.

The Chiefs clearly saw something nobody else did in Barion Brown, taking him 44 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D-.

They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Reese.

Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 7 of 8 of the wish list covered.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, quarterback very much included.

Pick Analysis
Pick12 Rnd1 Jeremiyah Love
In the 12th pick they get a featured back. A real need, handled.
Pick25 Rnd1 Arvell Reese
In the Round 1 slot they get a green-dot type in the middle at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick43 Rnd2 Max Klare
They reached a country mile for Max Klare at pick 43, and the board is aghast. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick51 Rnd2 Darrell Jackson Jr.
Darrell Jackson Jr. at pick No. 51 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick78 Rnd3 Malachi Fields
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Malachi Fields. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick83 Rnd3 Julian Neal
Julian Neal at the 83rd overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick112 Rnd4 Derrick Moore
Derrick Moore in pick No. 112 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick113 Rnd4 Bryce Lance
No drama and no debate, Bryce Lance went about where he belonged in pick 113. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick150 Rnd5 Aamil Wagner
A reach on Aamil Wagner in Round 5, Pick 11; the board had better options right there. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick177 Rnd5 Lee Hunter
A premium they did not need to pay, Lee Hunter a notch or two before his time. The roster fit checks out.
Pick181 Rnd5 Barion Brown
Barion Brown at the Round 5 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick210 Rnd6 De'Zhaun Stribling
They went early on De'Zhaun Stribling in slot 210, and the value did not follow. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
