Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall D
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureD
The Chiefs let Styles fall and pounced. Final grade: D.

The Chiefs put a flag in the ground for Max Klare, 31 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit. Put together, it is a D.

They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Styles steal is the beam this whole class leans on.

It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and quarterback is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick27 Rnd1 Jeremiyah Love
In pick No. 27 they get a centerpiece for the ground game, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
Pick34 Rnd2 Arvell Reese
Arvell Reese in No. 34 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick43 Rnd2 Max Klare
A wild overpay on Max Klare in Round 2, Pick 11, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick45 Rnd2 Daylen Everette
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Daylen Everette. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick65 Rnd3 Malachi Fields
They talked themselves into Malachi Fields at the 65th pick, and the board did not agree. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick71 Rnd3 Darrell Jackson Jr.
Darrell Jackson Jr. in pick 71 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick75 Rnd3 Xavier Chaplin
No drama and no debate, Xavier Chaplin went about where he belonged in pick No. 75. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick76 Rnd3 Sonny Styles
They barely believed it either: Sonny Styles still on the board at slot 76. The roster fit checks out.
Pick114 Rnd4 Anto Saka
By-the-book stuff, Anto Saka at No. 114 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick153 Rnd5 Isaac Smith
They went early on Isaac Smith in Round 5, Pick 13, and the value did not follow. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick176 Rnd5 Kevin Coleman Jr.
They read the board right and Kevin Coleman Jr. was the payoff at the 176th overall pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
