Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall D
ValueA NeedB TradesF FutureC-
Goosby should have been long gone. The Chiefs pounced, and earned a D.

Thirty-one other rooms let Trevor Goosby slide, and the Chiefs were the ones holding the card at pick No. 154. Highway robbery.

The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and quarterback is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick15 Rnd1 Jeremiyah Love
In pick No. 15 they get a bell-cow for the offense, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick37 Rnd2 Spencer Fano
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Spencer Fano in the Round 2 slot, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick46 Rnd2 Arvell Reese
They robbed the room for Arvell Reese here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The roster fit checks out.
Pick59 Rnd2 Sonny Styles
Sonny Styles slipping to the 59th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick68 Rnd3 Dani Dennis-Sutton
Dani Dennis-Sutton at pick 68 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It fills a real need, too.
Pick80 Rnd3 Joe Royer
Joe Royer in slot 80 is fair value, right on his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick89 Rnd3 Mansoor Delane
Mansoor Delane in No. 89 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick100 Rnd3 Malachi Fields
A slide stopped in Round 3, Pick 36, with Malachi Fields worth more than the price. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick115 Rnd4 Kayden McDonald
Taking Kayden McDonald in the Round 4 slot is close to grand larceny; an interior defensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick154 Rnd5 Trevor Goosby
You do not let an offensive lineman like Trevor Goosby reach slot 154 and blink. They did not. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick176 Rnd5 DeMonte Capehart
Steal is underselling it; DeMonte Capehart at pick No. 176 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick204 Rnd6 Dane Key
Dane Key in the 204th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
