Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall
B
ValueA
NeedB-
TradesB-
FutureB-
Best value of the weekend goes to the Patriots for Slaughter: B. Thirty-one other rooms let Jake Slaughter slide, and the Patriots were the ones holding the card at the Round 2 slot. Highway robbery. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
A tidy bit of business in the 30th overall pick, where Arvell Reese graded well above the range. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick62
Rnd2
Jake Slaughter
Jake Slaughter at the Round 2 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick94
Rnd3
Omar Cooper Jr.
Omar Cooper Jr. at No. 94 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
