The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Patriots reached some 50 spots for Patrick Payton, and value like that does not grow back. The bottom line is a respectable B-.

Landing Rivers that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
