DataSciDawg DRAFTING FOR THE49ers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall
B

NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The 49ers let Colandrea fall and pounced. Final grade: B. The rest of the league will want that one back. Anthony Colandrea tumbling to the 49ers in the 134th overall pick is a gift they did not have to think twice about.
The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The Umanmielen reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
Offensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Anthony Hill Jr.
In the 28th overall pick they get a downhill thumper at linebacker at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
Pick60
Rnd2
Monroe Freeling
Monroe Freeling at pick 60 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick92
Rnd3
Sonny Styles
Sonny Styles slipping to pick No. 92 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick128
Rnd4
Jake Slaughter
Jake Slaughter in the Round 4 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick134
Rnd4
Anthony Colandrea
A quarterback of that caliber at slot 134 is the definition of value, full stop. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick137
Rnd4
Princewill Umanmielen
Princewill Umanmielen at Round 4, Pick 35 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick167
Rnd5
Marquis Johnson
Nice patience on Marquis Johnson, who had no business lasting to the 167th pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick174
Rnd5
TJ Metcalf
TJ Metcalf at No. 174 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick206
Rnd6
Jaylon Braxton
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jaylon Braxton in pick 206. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick241
Rnd7
Trey Holly
They will replay Trey Holly at the 241st pick for years; that is how good the value is. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
