Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B
ValueA- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
Grand theft in pick No. 125: the Patriots steal Hood and grade out a B.

The rest of the league will want that one back. Colton Hood tumbling to the Patriots in the Round 4 slot is a gift they did not have to think twice about. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.

A whole weekend of picks and running back is somehow still a want. Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Caleb Lomu
In Round 1, Pick 31 they get protection for the quarterback. A real need, handled.
Pick63 Rnd2 Akheem Mesidor
Akheem Mesidor at the Round 2 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick96 Rnd3 Denzel Boston
They will replay Denzel Boston at No. 96 for years; that is how good the value is. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick125 Rnd4 Colton Hood
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Colton Hood in slot 125, plain and simple. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick131 Rnd4 Germie Bernard
Circle this one: Germie Bernard at pick 131 is a fall that decides a draft. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick171 Rnd5 Louis Moore
Fair-plus on Louis Moore, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick188 Rnd6 Zxavian Harris
Somehow Zxavian Harris was still sitting there in the 188th pick, and they pounced on premier interior defensive lineman value. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick191 Rnd6 Taylen Green
They did well to land Taylen Green in the 191st overall pick, just ahead of his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick198 Rnd6 Jeff Caldwell
They read the board right and Jeff Caldwell was the payoff at pick No. 198. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick202 Rnd6 Nate Boerkircher
Steal is underselling it; Nate Boerkircher at slot 202 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick212 Rnd6 Zane Durant
A interior defensive lineman of that caliber at the 212th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick247 Rnd7 Dallen Bentley
Dallen Bentley in the Round 7 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
