Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB TradesC+ FutureB-
The Patriots let Boerkircher fall and pounced. Final grade: B-.

You could see the war room lean forward. Nate Boerkircher at slot 169 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.

That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Caldwell has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.

They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Chris Brazzell II
In slot 31 they get a No. 1 receiver. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick63 Rnd2 Blake Miller
Good price on Blake Miller in No. 63, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick102 Rnd4 Darrell Jackson Jr.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Darrell Jackson Jr. at pick 102. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick125 Rnd4 Davison Igbinosun
A clean, defensible pick in Round 4, Pick 25 with a little surplus value in Davison Igbinosun. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick131 Rnd4 Bud Clark
A slide stopped in pick No. 131, with Bud Clark worth more than the price. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick169 Rnd5 Nate Boerkircher
Circle this one: Nate Boerkircher at the Round 5 slot is a fall that decides a draft. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick189 Rnd6 Taylen Green
Taylen Green in the 189th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick200 Rnd6 Kobe Baynes
Kobe Baynes at the 200th overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick207 Rnd6 Zxavian Harris
They paid a round early for Zxavian Harris in the 207th overall pick, more than the board wanted. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick210 Rnd6 Jeff Caldwell
They liked Jeff Caldwell enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 210. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick247 Rnd7 Andre Fuller
Nice patience on Andre Fuller, who had no business lasting to Round 7, Pick 31. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
