Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
More right than wrong for the 49ers, and a B- to prove it.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The 49ers did exactly that with Keylan Rutledge in slot 58. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.

The Price value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Job largely done: offensive lineman settled and 3 of 8 of the wish list covered.

Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick27 Rnd1 Caleb Lomu
In slot 27 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick58 Rnd2 Keylan Rutledge
A wild overpay on Keylan Rutledge in the 58th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick92 Rnd3 Jadarian Price
They barely believed it either: Jadarian Price still on the board at Round 3, Pick 28. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick127 Rnd4 Bishop Fitzgerald
The board had Bishop Fitzgerald higher than the 127th overall pick, and the safety fell to them anyway. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick133 Rnd4 Parker Brailsford
Parker Brailsford is a better player than pick 133 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick138 Rnd4 J.C. Davis
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and J.C. Davis at pick No. 138 is the proof. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick171 Rnd5 Aaron Anderson
Fair-plus on Aaron Anderson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
