Draft Grade — Raiders

FutureB
The Raiders finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a D. The trade table was where it all came apart. The Raiders shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill. The process wobbled, and the D is where it lands.
Fernando Mendoza is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. Reaching for Payton left real value on the table behind him.
The Lee III pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through tight end.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Fernando Mendoza
In slot 1 they get their guy under center for the next decade at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick20
Rnd1
Caleb Downs
In pick 20 they get a downhill hitter at safety at a price that makes it sweeter. Need was not the driver here.
Pick67
Rnd3
Domonique Orange
By-the-book stuff, Domonique Orange at the 67th pick squarely in line with his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick102
Rnd4
Skyler Bell
The board fumbled Skyler Bell all the way to Round 4, Pick 2, and they scooped it up. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick117
Rnd4
Will Lee III
You do not let a cornerback like Will Lee III reach pick No. 117 and blink. They did not. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick118
Rnd4
Jadarian Price
Steal is underselling it; Jadarian Price at the Round 4 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick134
Rnd4
Max Iheanachor
The board had cheaper options than Max Iheanachor at No. 134, and it noticed. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick155
Rnd5
Lander Barton
Lander Barton in the 155th overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick174
Rnd5
Patrick Payton
A wild overpay on Patrick Payton in the Round 5 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
