Chitown DRAFTING FOR THEBears

Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
B
ValueB
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Bears let Cornelius fall into their laps, and walked away with a B. Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Ajani Cornelius got past him. The Bears do not have to explain a thing at pick No. 149. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. The Jackson pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The roster is better shaped than it was, with interior defensive lineman chief among the fixes.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick Analysis
Pick10
Rnd1
Will Campbell
In No. 10 they get a cornerstone up front. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick39
Rnd2
Kenneth Grant
Steal is underselling it; Kenneth Grant at the 39th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick41
Rnd2
Malaki Starks
A quiet steal in the 41st overall pick: Malaki Starks for less than the market said. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick72
Rnd3
Donovan Jackson
They went early on Donovan Jackson in slot 72, and the value did not follow. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick149
Rnd5
Ajani Cornelius
Ajani Cornelius at Round 5, Pick 10 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
