jpalmer1 DRAFTING FOR THERaiders
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Raiders
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Raiders finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a B-. They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Cam Ward is the Raiders' quarterback, full stop.
The Mukuba steal is the beam this whole class leans on. Reaching for Harris left real value on the table behind him. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped offensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.
Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but offensive lineman.
Pick Analysis
Pick6
Rnd1
Cam Ward
In pick No. 6 they get their quarterback of the future. A real need, handled.
Pick37
Rnd2
Tre Harris
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Tre Harris. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick68
Rnd3
Demetrius Knight Jr.
Demetrius Knight Jr. at the 68th overall pick is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick108
Rnd4
Andrew Mukuba
They will replay Andrew Mukuba at slot 108 for years; that is how good the value is. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick143
Rnd5
Tommi Hill
Tommi Hill at the Round 5 slot is a conviction pick that outran the value. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick180
Rnd6
Kyle Williams
Kyle Williams slipping to Round 6, Pick 4 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick213
Rnd6
Woody Marks
Circle this one: Woody Marks at pick 213 is a fall that decides a draft. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick215
Rnd6
Ahmed Hassanein
Ahmed Hassanein at No. 215 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick222
Rnd7
Luke Lachey
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Luke Lachey in the 222nd pick. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
