jpalmer1 DRAFTING FOR THE49ers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall

FutureB-
The 49ers let Edwards fall and pounced. Final grade: B. Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the 49ers were there to profit. Donovan Edwards, the No. 204 name on the board, should have been long gone before Round 7, Pick 36. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman. Strong has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
Offensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Armand Membou
In the Round 1 slot they get a blindside protector. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick43
Rnd2
Tyler Warren
Steal is underselling it; Tyler Warren at pick 43 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick75
Rnd3
Donovan Jackson
The board had Donovan Jackson higher than No. 75, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick100
Rnd3
Tez Johnson
Tez Johnson at slot 100 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick113
Rnd4
Dorian Strong
Dorian Strong in the 113th overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick138
Rnd4
Jackson Slater
Jackson Slater at pick No. 138 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick147
Rnd5
Brashard Smith
Nice patience on Brashard Smith, who had no business lasting to the 147th pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick160
Rnd5
Ben Sauls
They paid sticker price for Ben Sauls in Round 5, Pick 22, and that is fine. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick227
Rnd7
Akili Arnold
Akili Arnold in the Round 7 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick249
Rnd7
Cody Lindenberg
Cody Lindenberg at slot 249 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick252
Rnd7
Donovan Edwards
You do not let a running back like Donovan Edwards reach Round 7, Pick 36 and blink. They did not. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
