Call it larceny. Demetrius Knight Jr. sat on the board until the Round 4 slot, and the Patriots did not need to be asked twice. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.

Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They gave back a little on the phones for the right to move. If Vinson pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.

Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
