Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B
ValueB+ NeedB TradesF FutureA+
The Patriots cashed the board's mistake on Brooks: B.

The rest of the league will want that one back. Tahj Brooks tumbling to the Patriots in the 238th pick is a gift they did not have to think twice about. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.

The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.

Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick Analysis
Pick12 Rnd1 Will Campbell
In No. 12 they get a building block for the line. A real need, handled.
Pick38 Rnd2 Jahdae Barron
Jahdae Barron at slot 38 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick69 Rnd3 Xavier Watts
They will replay Xavier Watts at the 69th pick for years; that is how good the value is. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick77 Rnd3 Tre Harris
The board had Tre Harris higher than pick 77, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick106 Rnd4 Savion Williams
Value with a capital V on Savion Williams in the Round 4 slot, a genuine coup. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick144 Rnd5 Hollin Pierce
Hollin Pierce at Round 5, Pick 6 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick174 Rnd5 Malachi Moore
The board fumbled Malachi Moore all the way to pick No. 174, and they scooped it up. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick217 Rnd7 Donovan Edwards
Donovan Edwards slipping to the 217th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick220 Rnd7 Luke Lachey
A slide stopped in the 220th overall pick, with Luke Lachey worth more than the price. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick238 Rnd7 Tahj Brooks
Somehow Tahj Brooks was still sitting there in the 238th pick, and they pounced on premier running back value. It fills a real need, too.
