Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B
ValueB NeedB+ TradesC- FutureA
Winston Jr. should have been long gone. The Patriots pounced, and earned a B.

You could see the war room lean forward. Kevin Winston Jr. at slot 144 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. No fireworks, but a solid B.

The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Jackson pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They were the ones paying the moving tax this weekend.

The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.

Pick Analysis
Pick14 Rnd1 Shemar Stewart
In the 14th overall pick they get a bendy edge with upside at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick38 Rnd2 Grey Zabel
Grey Zabel in pick No. 38 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick45 Rnd2 Colston Loveland
The board fumbled Colston Loveland all the way to slot 45, and they scooped it up. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick69 Rnd3 Jayden Higgins
Jayden Higgins is a better player than No. 69 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick77 Rnd3 Ozzy Trapilo
Ozzy Trapilo in the Round 3 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick144 Rnd5 Kevin Winston Jr.
They robbed the room for Kevin Winston Jr. here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick156 Rnd5 Hollin Pierce
Steal is underselling it; Hollin Pierce at Round 5, Pick 18 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick217 Rnd7 Carson Vinson
They went early on Carson Vinson in pick 217, and the value did not follow. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick218 Rnd7 Cam Jackson
They paid up for Cam Jackson at pick 218 when waiting would have done the job. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick220 Rnd7 Donovan Edwards
Donovan Edwards at pick No. 220 is money in the bank, a running back taken below his worth. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick229 Rnd7 Luke Lachey
Taking Luke Lachey in the 229th pick is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick232 Rnd7 R.J. Mickens
R.J. Mickens in Round 7, Pick 16 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick238 Rnd7 Isaac TeSlaa
Isaac TeSlaa at the 238th overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
