The Patriots did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Jalen Royals fell into pick 101. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.

They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 7 of 8 of the wish list covered. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

Their trades came out a wash either way.
