Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall A
ValueB+ NeedB TradesA+ FutureA+
The Patriots won the weekend at the trade table. Grade: A.

There is conviction, and then there is this. The Patriots took Stone Handy a full 120 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend.

If one pick saves this weekend, it is Starks. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

The veteran additions, Josh Downs chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.

Bottom line, with Matthew Golden leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.

Pick Analysis
Pick15 Rnd1 Armand Membou
In No. 15 they get protection for the quarterback at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick25 Rnd1 Matthew Golden
In pick No. 25 they get a difference-maker at receiver, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick53 Rnd2 Tyler Warren
Tyler Warren in slot 53 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick69 Rnd3 Malaki Starks
Somehow Malaki Starks was still sitting there in the Round 3 slot, and they pounced on premier safety value. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick79 Rnd3 Omarr Norman-Lott
Omarr Norman-Lott in the 79th overall pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick84 Rnd3 Deone Walker
They paid sticker price for Deone Walker in Round 3, Pick 20, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick106 Rnd4 Charles Grant
A slide stopped in pick No. 106, with Charles Grant worth more than the price. It fills a real need, too.
Pick125 Rnd4 Zy Alexander
Zy Alexander in the 125th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick144 Rnd5 Hollin Pierce
Hollin Pierce at the 144th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick217 Rnd7 CJ West
CJ West at slot 217 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick220 Rnd7 Carson Vinson
Carson Vinson at pick 220 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The roster fit checks out.
Pick239 Rnd7 Stone Handy
Stone Handy in the Round 7 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
