Larceny in the 239th pick lands the Patriots a B-, Ransaw and all.

Somebody in slot 239 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Patriots sat still while Caleb Ransaw, the No. 206 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.

The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Matthew Golden
In the Round 1 slot they get a home-run threat at receiver at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick38 Rnd2 Nic Scourton
Nice patience on Nic Scourton, who had no business lasting to pick 38. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick61 Rnd2 Xavier Watts
Xavier Watts at pick No. 61 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick69 Rnd3 Maxwell Hairston
By-the-book stuff, Maxwell Hairston at slot 69 squarely in line with his ranking. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick77 Rnd3 Dylan Sampson
They let Dylan Sampson come to them and pounced at the 77th pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick106 Rnd4 Ozzy Trapilo
Ozzy Trapilo in the 106th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick128 Rnd4 Tez Johnson
Somehow Tez Johnson was still sitting there in No. 128, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick144 Rnd5 Hollin Pierce
A reasonable price with a little left over, Hollin Pierce in Round 5, Pick 6. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick217 Rnd7 Luke Lachey
Luke Lachey slid further than he should have, and slot 217 is lovely value for the tight end. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick220 Rnd7 Carson Vinson
A straight-up fair deal on Carson Vinson at the Round 7 slot, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
Pick239 Rnd7 Caleb Ransaw
Steal is underselling it; Caleb Ransaw at pick 239 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
