FutureB-
Gabriel should have been long gone. The Saints pounced, and earned a B. The Saints spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Dillon Gabriel, the No. 128 name on the board, in the Round 6 slot. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
If Armstrong pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 8 of 8 of the wish list covered.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Tetairoa McMillan
In slot 14 they get a No. 1 receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick36
Rnd2
Walter Nolen
Nice patience on Walter Nolen, who had no business lasting to Round 2, Pick 4. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick55
Rnd2
Donovan Ezeiruaku
Donovan Ezeiruaku in pick 55 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick71
Rnd3
TreVeyon Henderson
Value with a capital V on TreVeyon Henderson in pick No. 71, a genuine coup. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick86
Rnd3
Charles Grant
Charles Grant at the 86th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick93
Rnd3
Andrew Mukuba
Andrew Mukuba in No. 93 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick111
Rnd4
Cody Simon
This one needs a full-page explanation: Cody Simon in the Round 4 slot, miles early. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick121
Rnd4
Malachi Moore
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Malachi Moore at the 121st overall pick. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick150
Rnd5
Jared Wilson
Somehow Jared Wilson was still sitting there in the Round 5 slot, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick170
Rnd5
Nohl Williams
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Nohl Williams. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick183
Rnd6
Logan Brown
The board fumbled Logan Brown all the way to slot 183, and they scooped it up. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick186
Rnd6
Dillon Gabriel
They will replay Dillon Gabriel at the 186th pick for years; that is how good the value is. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick220
Rnd7
Luke Lachey
Luke Lachey in the 220th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The roster fit checks out.
Pick253
Rnd7
Andrew Armstrong
Andrew Armstrong at No. 253 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
