Thornton Jr. should have been long gone. The Patriots pounced, and earned a A-.

The board owed the Patriots one, and it paid up: Dont'e Thornton Jr., the No. 174 name on the board, sitting there at pick No. 219 like a gift left on the doorstep. Very little went wrong, and the A- is earned.

Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.

The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.

Bottom line, they left the weekend a clearly better team, and they earned every bit of it.
