Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B

The Patriots finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a B.

You could see the war room lean forward. Cam Skattebo at slot 219 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.

The cost of the Griffith reach is exactly the players who went right after him. Whatever Shedeur Sanders becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick Analysis
Pick4 Rnd1 Shedeur Sanders
In pick 4 they get a long-term answer under center. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick38 Rnd2 Walter Nolen
Steal is underselling it; Walter Nolen at the Round 2 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick69 Rnd3 Donovan Jackson
They paid up for Donovan Jackson at the 69th overall pick when waiting would have done the job. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick77 Rnd3 Elic Ayomanor
A wide receiver of that caliber at the Round 3 slot is the definition of value, full stop. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick105 Rnd4 Kaleb Johnson
They barely believed it either: Kaleb Johnson still on the board at pick 105. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick145 Rnd5 Elijah Arroyo
Taking Elijah Arroyo in slot 145 is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick219 Rnd7 Cam Skattebo
Cam Skattebo in pick No. 219 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It fills a real need, too.
Pick222 Rnd7 Jeffrey Bassa
Jeffrey Bassa in Round 7, Pick 4 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick240 Rnd7 Thor Griffith
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Thor Griffith well ahead of where he belonged. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
