The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Patriots watched Smael Mondon Jr. slide 107 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.

They will need Griffith to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.

Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
