Draft Grade — Raiders

FutureB-
The Raiders answered their biggest question with Mendoza. Grade: D-. You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Raiders did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. The math is unkind, and the D- follows.
They have staked the next five years on Fernando Mendoza, which is the only story that really matters here. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up.
Every board in the league had Wheatley lower, and that gap is the story. On value alone, Bell makes the weekend a net positive.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and tight end is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Fernando Mendoza
In the 1st overall pick they get their guy under center for the next decade. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick29
Rnd1
Kayden McDonald
In slot 29 they get a run-stuffing presence up front at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick36
Rnd2
Colton Hood
Colton Hood at Round 2, Pick 4 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick61
Rnd2
Zakee Wheatley
A reach for Zakee Wheatley in No. 61; a little patience would have been rewarded. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick67
Rnd3
Isaiah World
By-the-book stuff, Isaiah World at the 67th pick squarely in line with his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick93
Rnd3
Skyler Bell
Nice patience on Skyler Bell, who had no business lasting to pick 93. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick102
Rnd4
Caden Curry
A straight-up fair deal on Caden Curry at pick No. 102, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick117
Rnd4
Bryce Lance
A tidy little value on Bryce Lance in the Round 4 slot, a step better than break-even. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick134
Rnd4
Max Iheanachor
A conviction pick on Max Iheanachor at the 134th overall pick that the board grades a round light. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick167
Rnd5
Jaydn Ott
They took Jaydn Ott at par in slot 167, which is nothing to complain about. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick174
Rnd5
Xavier Nwankpa
Value with a capital V on Xavier Nwankpa in pick 174, a genuine coup. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
