Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall
D-
ValueC
NeedB
TradesF
FutureB-
The Cowboys bled value on every deal, hence the D-. The Kamran James pick is the one that will follow the Cowboys into the fall. They took him 49 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D-.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. That McNeil-Warren pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Sonny Styles
In pick 12 they get the heartbeat of the defense, though they paid up to get him. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick20
Rnd1
Anthony Hill Jr.
In the 20th overall pick they get a downhill thumper at linebacker, a steep price for the projection. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick60
Rnd2
Caleb Banks
They let Caleb Banks come to them and pounced at the Round 2 slot. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick75
Rnd3
Jaeden Roberts
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jaeden Roberts in pick No. 75, miles early. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick90
Rnd3
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren
Steal is underselling it; Emmanuel McNeil-Warren at No. 90 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick91
Rnd3
Caden Curry
Caden Curry at slot 91 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick112
Rnd4
Tacario Davis
No drama and no debate, Tacario Davis went about where he belonged in Round 4, Pick 12. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick150
Rnd5
Chase Roberts
A straight-up fair deal on Chase Roberts at pick No. 150, value and slot in agreement. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick177
Rnd5
Bud Clark
Bud Clark in No. 177 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick215
Rnd6
Kamran James
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Kamran James well ahead of where he belonged. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick221
Rnd7
Roydell Williams
They reached into another round for Roydell Williams, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It fills a real need, too.
Pick225
Rnd7
Joey Aguilar
Joey Aguilar at slot 225 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
