Cmilla DRAFTING FOR THECommanders
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall
B-
ValueB
NeedB-
TradesB-
FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Commanders, and a B- to prove it. Everything else got attention, and offensive lineman got none. That is a strange way for the Commanders to leave a draft. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Montgomery. On the needs board they went 3 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most. The back end got a real overhaul.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick7
Rnd1
Caleb Downs
Caleb Downs in slot 7 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick71
Rnd3
Max Klare
Max Klare at No. 71 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick145
Rnd5
Davison Igbinosun
A straight-up fair deal on Davison Igbinosun at the Round 5 slot, value and slot in agreement. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick185
Rnd6
Tyren Montgomery
Value with a capital V on Tyren Montgomery in pick 185, a genuine coup. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick196
Rnd6
Bud Clark
They paid sticker price for Bud Clark in the 196th pick, and that is fine. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick223
Rnd7
Raylen Wilson
A tidy little value on Raylen Wilson in Round 7, Pick 7, a step better than break-even. A minor need, but a need all the same.
