The board owed the Chargers one, and it paid up: Jaylin Simpson, the No. 137 name on the board, sitting there at Round 5, Pick 33 like a gift left on the doorstep. More right than wrong, and a B+ to match.

They will need Reed to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
