Draft Grade — Cardinals
Overall

FutureC+
The Cardinals bled value on every deal, hence the D-. The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Cardinals reached some 110 spots for Tahj Washington, and value like that does not grow back. The math is unkind, and the D- follows.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Cowing. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.
It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.
Pick Analysis
Pick4
Rnd1
Marvin Harrison Jr.
In the 4th pick they get a go-to option on the outside. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick27
Rnd1
Jackson Powers-Johnson
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jackson Powers-Johnson. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick42
Rnd2
Nate Wiggins
Steal is underselling it; Nate Wiggins at Round 2, Pick 10 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick66
Rnd3
Tyler Guyton
Taking Tyler Guyton in slot 66 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick71
Rnd3
Braden Fiske
They paid up for Braden Fiske at the Round 3 slot when waiting would have done the job. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick80
Rnd3
Darius Robinson
They left a pile of value on the table to take Darius Robinson this early at the 80th overall pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick105
Rnd4
Cooper Beebe
Circle this one: Cooper Beebe at pick 105 is a fall that decides a draft. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick109
Rnd4
Austin Booker
This one needs a full-page explanation: Austin Booker in No. 109, miles early. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick116
Rnd4
Malik Washington
They took Malik Washington at par in Round 4, Pick 16, which is nothing to complain about. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick137
Rnd5
Jalyx Hunt
A clean, defensible pick in the 137th overall pick with a little surplus value in Jalyx Hunt. The roster logic is harder to follow.
Pick145
Rnd5
Isaiah Adams
A offensive lineman of that caliber at slot 145 is the definition of value, full stop. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick148
Rnd5
Jacob Cowing
Jacob Cowing at the 148th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick157
Rnd5
Chau Smith-Wade
Chau Smith-Wade at the Round 5 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick166
Rnd5
Cody Schrader
No edge and no loss on Cody Schrader in pick No. 166; it is a wash and a sensible one. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick175
Rnd5
Zion Tupuola-Fetui
Zion Tupuola-Fetui at the Round 5 slot nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick179
Rnd6
Eric Watts
Eric Watts at No. 179 is a conviction pick that outran the value. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick188
Rnd6
Gabe Hall
They reached a country mile for Gabe Hall at pick No. 188, and the board is aghast. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick196
Rnd6
Josh Proctor
Josh Proctor at the 196th overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick222
Rnd7
Kimani Vidal
Kimani Vidal at slot 222 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It fills a real need, too.
Pick224
Rnd7
JD Bertrand
The board fumbled JD Bertrand all the way to pick 224, and they scooped it up. The roster fit checks out.
Pick227
Rnd7
Brevyn Spann-Ford
A tidy little value on Brevyn Spann-Ford in Round 7, Pick 7, a step better than break-even. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick235
Rnd7
Tanor Bortolini
Tanor Bortolini in the 235th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick252
Rnd7
Tahj Washington
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Tahj Washington well ahead of where he belonged. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
