Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Cowboys spent Round 6, Pick 11 on KJ Jefferson, a name most had 108 spots down the list.

They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. They banked enough surplus on Kiser to cover a lot of smaller sins.

Spending an early pick on safety with cornerback and tight end open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.

In the 9th overall pick they get protection for the quarterback, a steep price for the projection. Exactly the need they had to hit.
