Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B
ValueB- NeedB TradesB FutureA
Good, not great, for the 49ers: B.

There was a run on nobody at that position, and the 49ers started one anyway for Tyreak Sapp, 116 picks ahead of schedule. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took King. It is not that Mukuba is a bad player; it is that the 49ers had louder needs to answer first.

They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick Analysis
Pick33 Rnd2 Nick Emmanwori
They will replay Nick Emmanwori at pick 33 for years; that is how good the value is. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick43 Rnd2 JT Tuimoloau
They jumped the gun on JT Tuimoloau, taking him earlier than his grade liked. The roster fit checks out.
Pick67 Rnd3 Tate Ratledge
Tate Ratledge in pick No. 67 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick75 Rnd3 Alfred Collins
Alfred Collins slid further than he should have, and the 75th pick is lovely value for the interior defensive lineman. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick89 Rnd3 Jake Majors
Jake Majors in the 89th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick99 Rnd3 Emery Jones Jr.
Emery Jones Jr. at the Round 3 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick111 Rnd4 Andrew Mukuba
A curious use of pick No. 111. Tight end needed the pick; a safety in Andrew Mukuba did not.
Pick137 Rnd4 Smael Mondon Jr.
You do not let a linebacker like Smael Mondon Jr. reach No. 137 and blink. They did not. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick163 Rnd5 Tyreak Sapp
They left a pile of value on the table to take Tyreak Sapp this early at slot 163. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick165 Rnd5 Cobee Bryant
A reach for Cobee Bryant in the 165th pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick185 Rnd6 Brashard Smith
Brashard Smith in the 185th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick226 Rnd7 Kobe King
Kobe King at pick 226 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick230 Rnd7 Thor Griffith
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Thor Griffith. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick249 Rnd7 Hudson Card
They reached a country mile for Hudson Card at Round 7, Pick 33, and the board is aghast. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick255 Rnd7 Bru McCoy
This one needs a full-page explanation: Bru McCoy in Round 7, Pick 39, miles early. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
