Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
Quarterback settled, Maye in the fold, and a B- for the Commanders.

The search is over. The Commanders handed the keys to Drake Maye, and the whole operation now runs on his development. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Simpson. A whole weekend of picks and wide receiver is somehow still a want.

If Powers-Johnson pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick2 Rnd1 Drake Maye
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term answer under center. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick36 Rnd2 Tyler Guyton
No edge and no loss on Tyler Guyton in slot 36; it is a wash and a sensible one. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick40 Rnd2 Jackson Powers-Johnson
A conviction pick on Jackson Powers-Johnson at the 40th overall pick that the board grades a round light. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick67 Rnd3 Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in pick No. 67 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick100 Rnd3 Zak Zinter
Zak Zinter in pick 100 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick104 Rnd4 Khyree Jackson
They took Khyree Jackson at par in No. 104, which is nothing to complain about. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick141 Rnd5 Tommy Eichenberg
Tommy Eichenberg slipping to Round 5, Pick 5 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick181 Rnd6 Jaylin Simpson
Somehow Jaylin Simpson was still sitting there in the 181st pick, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick223 Rnd7 Erick All
Good price on Erick All in the 223rd pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
