Draft Grade — Raiders
Overall

FutureB-
Mendoza is the plan now, and the Raiders grade out a D-. The Raiders did not so much draft Derrick Moore as overpay for him, 36 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. It grades a D-, and the process earned it.
Whatever Fernando Mendoza becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back.
They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Fernando Mendoza
In the 1st pick they get the arm they will build around. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick17
Rnd1
Kayden McDonald
In Round 1, Pick 17 they get a disruptive interior force, though they paid up to get him. A real need, handled.
Pick36
Rnd2
Zion Young
A premium they did not need to pay, Zion Young a notch or two before his time. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick67
Rnd3
Derrick Moore
Derrick Moore in slot 67 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick102
Rnd4
Xavier Scott
No edge and no loss on Xavier Scott in pick No. 102; it is a wash and a sensible one. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick117
Rnd4
Jaishawn Barham
They paid sticker price for Jaishawn Barham in the 117th overall pick, and that is fine. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick118
Rnd4
Blake Miller
They took Blake Miller at par in pick 118, which is nothing to complain about. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick134
Rnd4
Jakobe Thomas
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jakobe Thomas. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick135
Rnd4
CJ Daniels
CJ Daniels at No. 135 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick156
Rnd5
Max Iheanachor
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Max Iheanachor in slot 156. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick176
Rnd5
Jaydn Ott
Jaydn Ott in the 176th pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A need, and now a little less of one.
