With cornerback, quarterback and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on linebacker is the choice that costs them. For all the activity, cornerback went untouched, which is hard to explain.

They will need Rodriguez to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
