Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesD- FutureA
The Commanders answered their biggest question with Maye. Grade: B-.

The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Commanders spent their marquee pick on Drake Maye, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.

The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up.

They are betting Frazier proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They banked enough surplus on Corley to cover a lot of smaller sins.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.

Pick Analysis
Pick8 Rnd1 Drake Maye
In the 8th pick they get the face of the franchise. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick36 Rnd2 Chris Braswell
They took Chris Braswell at par in No. 36, which is nothing to complain about. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick40 Rnd2 Zach Frazier
Zach Frazier at the 40th overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick43 Rnd2 Payton Wilson
They paid up for Payton Wilson at pick No. 43 when waiting would have done the job. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick67 Rnd3 Malachi Corley
They let Malachi Corley come to them and pounced at Round 3, Pick 3. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick74 Rnd3 Dominick Puni
Dominick Puni at pick 74 is a conviction pick that outran the value. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick101 Rnd4 Javon Baker
Value with a capital V on Javon Baker in slot 101, a genuine coup. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick103 Rnd4 MarShawn Lloyd
MarShawn Lloyd in the Round 4 slot is fair value, right on his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick138 Rnd5 Roger Rosengarten
Roger Rosengarten at pick 138 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick181 Rnd6 Sione Vaki
They read the board right and Sione Vaki was the payoff at slot 181. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick220 Rnd6 Myles Cole
Myles Cole in pick No. 220 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
