Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The Patriots did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B-.

You can hear the double-takes from here. The Patriots took Keyron Crawford at the 200th overall pick, roughly 94 spots before his name belonged. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.

Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Ponds pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Kenyon Sadiq
In pick 31 they get a moveable chess piece at tight end, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
Pick63 Rnd2 D'Angelo Ponds
D'Angelo Ponds is a better player than the 63rd pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick95 Rnd3 Keylan Rutledge
Value said wait; Keylan Rutledge in No. 95 says they were not listening. The roster fit checks out.
Pick125 Rnd4 Kyle Louis
Kyle Louis at pick No. 125 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick131 Rnd4 Bud Clark
They reached a country mile for Bud Clark at Round 4, Pick 31, and the board is aghast. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick169 Rnd5 Aamil Wagner
No edge and no loss on Aamil Wagner in slot 169; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick189 Rnd6 Josh Cameron
Josh Cameron in pick No. 189 lands just on the right side of the ledger. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick200 Rnd6 Keyron Crawford
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Keyron Crawford. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick207 Rnd6 Deven Eastern
They reached into another round for Deven Eastern, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick210 Rnd6 Kaelon Black
They took Kaelon Black at par in Round 6, Pick 31, which is nothing to complain about. It fills a real need, too.
Pick247 Rnd7 Eli Heidenreich
They read the board right and Eli Heidenreich was the payoff at No. 247. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
