Draft Grade — Bears

FutureA
The phones sank the Bears this weekend: C+. The rest of the league will want that one back. Kobe Hudson tumbling to the Bears in Round 7, Pick 17 is a gift they did not have to think twice about. Call it a C+ and check back in two years.
The Garcia pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through cornerback.
Hit on Derrick Harmon and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick Analysis
Pick33
Rnd2
Derrick Harmon
They did well to land Derrick Harmon in Round 2, Pick 1, just ahead of his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick39
Rnd2
Tyler Booker
Tyler Booker at pick No. 39 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick41
Rnd2
Jonah Savaiinaea
No edge and no loss on Jonah Savaiinaea in the Round 2 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick72
Rnd3
Jordan Burch
Jordan Burch in the 72nd overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick149
Rnd5
Damien Martinez
A conviction pick on Damien Martinez at pick 149 that the board grades a round light. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick165
Rnd5
Oronde Gadsden II
They will replay Oronde Gadsden II at pick No. 165 for years; that is how good the value is. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick197
Rnd6
Upton Stout
They let Upton Stout come to them and pounced at Round 6, Pick 19. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick202
Rnd6
JJ Pegues
JJ Pegues slid further than he should have, and slot 202 is lovely value for the interior defensive lineman. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick235
Rnd7
Kobe Hudson
Kobe Hudson in No. 235 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The roster fit checks out.
Pick242
Rnd7
Trey Zuhn III
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Trey Zuhn III in the 242nd pick, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick257
Rnd7
Gino Garcia
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Gino Garcia. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
