Draft Grade — Raiders
Overall
D-
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesF
FutureB-
The Raiders found their guy under center in Mendoza: D-. Every swap seemed to tilt away from the Raiders, and the value they bled adds up to real damage. The math is unkind, and the D- follows.
So much rides on Fernando Mendoza that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. Spending an early pick on linebacker with tight end open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through tight end.
Every board in the league had Dennis-Sutton lower, and that gap is the story.
Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Fernando Mendoza
In pick No. 1 they get a long-term answer under center. A real need, handled.
Pick18
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In slot 18 they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker, and a steal at that. Need was not the driver here.
Pick36
Rnd2
Dani Dennis-Sutton
They went early on Dani Dennis-Sutton in Round 2, Pick 4, and the value did not follow. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick67
Rnd3
Lee Hunter
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Lee Hunter. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick82
Rnd3
Omar Cooper Jr.
Omar Cooper Jr. in the Round 3 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick102
Rnd4
Xavier Scott
Xavier Scott in No. 102 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick117
Rnd4
Jaishawn Barham
A surprising call. With tight end still to address, they spent pick 117 on Jaishawn Barham, a linebacker they were not short of.
Pick118
Rnd4
Chase Bisontis
A straight-up fair deal on Chase Bisontis at the 118th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick134
Rnd4
Jakobe Thomas
They paid sticker price for Jakobe Thomas in pick No. 134, and that is fine. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick135
Rnd4
CJ Daniels
No drama and no debate, CJ Daniels went about where he belonged in pick 135. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick156
Rnd5
Max Iheanachor
Max Iheanachor at Round 5, Pick 17 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick176
Rnd5
Jaydn Ott
Jaydn Ott in slot 176 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
