Draft Grade — Raiders
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
Quarterback settled, Mendoza in the fold, and a B- for the Raiders. The Raiders went off the board in a big way for Roman Hemby, 144 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
They have staked the next five years on Fernando Mendoza, which is the only story that really matters here. That is an interior defensive lineman worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Spending an early pick on safety with edge rusher and offensive lineman open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Fernando Mendoza
In slot 1 they get a long-term answer under center. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick36
Rnd2
Dillon Thieneman
Dillon Thieneman at pick No. 36 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick67
Rnd3
Christen Miller
Christen Miller in the 67th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick102
Rnd4
Domonique Orange
Domonique Orange in No. 102 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The roster fit checks out.
Pick117
Rnd4
Genesis Smith
A curious use of pick 117. Edge rusher and offensive lineman needed the pick; a safety in Genesis Smith did not.
Pick147
Rnd5
Charles Demmings
They took Charles Demmings at par in Round 5, Pick 7, which is nothing to complain about. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick180
Rnd5
Reggie Virgil
A slide stopped in Round 5, Pick 40, with Reggie Virgil worth more than the price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick185
Rnd6
Taylen Green
A straight-up fair deal on Taylen Green at pick No. 185, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
Pick208
Rnd6
Riley Nowakowski
They went early on Riley Nowakowski in the Round 6 slot, and the value did not follow. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick209
Rnd6
Roman Hemby
Roman Hemby at the 209th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick219
Rnd7
Aiden Fisher
The board had cheaper options than Aiden Fisher at slot 219, and it noticed. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
