Jz DRAFTING FOR THEPatriots

Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall

FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Patriots a B-. You can hear the double-takes from here. The Patriots took Malachi Lawrence at the 95th pick, roughly 51 spots before his name belonged. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. On value alone, Sadiq makes the weekend a net positive.
Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Kenyon Sadiq
In slot 31 they get a red-zone target to build around at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
Pick63
Rnd2
Max Iheanachor
A conviction pick on Max Iheanachor at pick 63 that the board grades a round light. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick95
Rnd3
Malachi Lawrence
Value said wait; Malachi Lawrence in Round 3, Pick 31 says they were not listening. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick125
Rnd4
Keylan Rutledge
Keylan Rutledge in pick No. 125 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick131
Rnd4
Kevin Coleman Jr.
A big swing on Kevin Coleman Jr. at the 131st overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick169
Rnd5
Red Murdock
Red Murdock in No. 169 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick189
Rnd6
Bud Clark
They left a pile of value on the table to take Bud Clark this early at Round 6, Pick 10. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick200
Rnd6
Charles Jagusah
They paid sticker price for Charles Jagusah in slot 200, and that is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick207
Rnd6
Thaddeus Dixon
They jumped the gun on Thaddeus Dixon, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick210
Rnd6
Kaelon Black
Kaelon Black at the 210th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick247
Rnd7
Deven Eastern
This one needs a full-page explanation: Deven Eastern in pick No. 247, miles early. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
