Jz DRAFTING FOR THEPatriots
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall
B-
ValueB-

FutureB-
A solid, sensible weekend for the Patriots: B-. Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Patriots spent the 125th overall pick on Bud Clark, a name most had 62 spots down the list.
They banked enough surplus on Cooper Jr. to cover a lot of smaller sins. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Sonny Styles
In slot 31 they get a green-dot type in the middle, outstanding value to boot.
Pick63
Rnd2
Gennings Dunker
They read the board right and Gennings Dunker was the payoff at Round 2, Pick 31. The roster fit checks out.
Pick95
Rnd3
Omar Cooper Jr.
Omar Cooper Jr. slipping to the 95th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick125
Rnd4
Bud Clark
A real head-scratcher, Bud Clark in the 125th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick131
Rnd4
Oscar Delp
This one needs a full-page explanation: Oscar Delp in pick No. 131, miles early. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick169
Rnd5
Treydan Stukes
Treydan Stukes at No. 169 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick189
Rnd6
Keyron Crawford
A wild overpay on Keyron Crawford in No. 189, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick200
Rnd6
Desmond Reid
Desmond Reid in Round 6, Pick 21 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick207
Rnd6
DJ Harvey
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and DJ Harvey at pick 207 is the proof. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick210
Rnd6
Nolan Rucci
No edge and no loss on Nolan Rucci in the 210th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick247
Rnd7
Haynes King
Haynes King in slot 247 is fair value, right on his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
