The Bears found their guy under center in Williams: D-. The trade table was where it all came apart. The Bears shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill.
The whole projection now runs through Caleb Williams; hit there and everything else looks smarter. Bell has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and edge rusher is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Caleb Williams
In pick 1 they get a passer to set the clock by. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick9
Rnd1
Rome Odunze
No edge and no loss on Rome Odunze in the 9th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick20
Rnd1
Brian Thomas Jr.
In No. 20 they get a true top target, though they paid up to get him. A real need, handled.
Pick75
Rnd3
Bucky Irving
Bucky Irving in the Round 3 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick115
Rnd4
Jaheim Bell
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jaheim Bell well ahead of where he belonged. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick122
Rnd4
Beaux Limmer
A real head-scratcher, Beaux Limmer in slot 122 is miles ahead of his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
Pick146
Rnd5
James Williams
James Williams at Round 5, Pick 10 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick173
Rnd5
Javon Baker
They took Javon Baker at par in the 173rd overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
