Draft Grade — Bears
Overall B+
ValueB NeedB TradesA+ FutureB
The Bears fleeced the room on the phones and earned a B+.

The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Bears reached some 40 spots for Jordan Jefferson, and value like that does not grow back.

They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. Getting DeJean where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.

The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The Kamren Curl pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.

Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.

Pick Analysis
Pick2 Rnd1 Marvin Harrison Jr.
In the 2nd pick they get a true top target. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick9 Rnd1 Olumuyiwa Fashanu
In No. 9 they get protection for the quarterback at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick36 Rnd2 Cooper DeJean
Taking Cooper DeJean in pick No. 36 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick67 Rnd3 Gabriel Murphy
A big swing on Gabriel Murphy at pick 67, well ahead of any board in the building. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick75 Rnd3 Jalen McMillan
Jalen McMillan at Round 3, Pick 11 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick110 Rnd4 Tommy Eichenberg
Tommy Eichenberg at the 110th overall pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. It fills a real need, too.
Pick122 Rnd4 Will Shipley
They paid a round early for Will Shipley in the Round 4 slot, more than the board wanted. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick141 Rnd5 Jordan Jefferson
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jordan Jefferson this early at Round 5, Pick 5. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick146 Rnd5 Javion Cohen
They took Javion Cohen at par in the 146th pick, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
