The Bears cashed the board's mistake on Reese: B. The curious call sets the tone. With edge rusher, running back and other spots still glaring, the Bears used the Round 3 slot on Zakee Wheatley, a safety they were not exactly short of. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. That Reese pick is the receipt they will wave around later. The cost of the Louis reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In slot 25 they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker at a price that makes it sweeter.
Pick63
Rnd2
A.J. Haulcy
Nice patience on A.J. Haulcy, who had no business lasting to pick 63. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick89
Rnd3
Zakee Wheatley
A surprising call. With edge rusher, running back and other spots still to address, they spent Round 3, Pick 25 on Zakee Wheatley, a safety they were not short of.
Pick95
Rnd3
Devin Moore
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Devin Moore in the 95th pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick129
Rnd4
Kyle Louis
A reach for Kyle Louis in pick No. 129; a little patience would have been rewarded. The roster fit checks out.
Pick163
Rnd5
Aaron Anderson
Aaron Anderson at the 163rd overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick239
Rnd7
Jordan Hall
The board had cheaper options than Jordan Hall at No. 239, and it noticed. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick241
Rnd7
Micah Morris
A premium they did not need to pay, Micah Morris a notch or two before his time. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
