Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall B+
ValueC- NeedB TradesA+ FutureA
The Commanders worked the phones like thieves and earned a B+.

The Commanders went off the board in a big way for Reid Carrico, 77 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. They moved the roster forward and banked a B+ for it.

The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.

Azeez Al-Shaair gives the group a proven body among the projects. Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.

Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick28 Rnd1 Akheem Mesidor
In the 28th pick they get a premier pass rusher, a steep price for the projection.
Pick38 Rnd2 Dillon Thieneman
Nothing to complain about; Dillon Thieneman went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick71 Rnd3 Zachariah Branch
Zachariah Branch in pick No. 71 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick145 Rnd5 Jalen Farmer
Jalen Farmer at Round 5, Pick 7 is a conviction pick that outran the value. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick185 Rnd6 Thaddeus Dixon
No edge and no loss on Thaddeus Dixon in No. 185; it is a wash and a sensible one. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick196 Rnd6 Brett Norfleet
Brett Norfleet at the Round 6 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick223 Rnd7 Reid Carrico
A big swing on Reid Carrico at pick No. 223, well ahead of any board in the building. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick243 Rnd7 Roman Hemby
Roman Hemby at the 243rd overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
