Draft Grade — Cowboys

The Cowboys robbed the room for Allen. Final grade: B-. You build a draft on nights like this. Braelon Allen had no business being available in pick 174, and the Cowboys did the only sane thing and turned in the card. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
A whole weekend of picks and cornerback is somehow still a want. Goncalves has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.
Pick Analysis
Pick24
Rnd1
Brian Thomas Jr.
In Round 1, Pick 24 they get a matchup problem out wide. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick56
Rnd2
Trey Benson
The board had cheaper options than Trey Benson at pick No. 56, and it noticed. The roster fit checks out.
Pick87
Rnd3
Matt Goncalves
Matt Goncalves at pick 87 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick124
Rnd4
Tommy Eichenberg
No edge and no loss on Tommy Eichenberg in slot 124; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick174
Rnd5
Braelon Allen
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Braelon Allen in the Round 5 slot, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick212
Rnd6
Omar Speights
Omar Speights in No. 212 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
