Draft Grade — Bears

FutureB
The Bears let McCoy fall and pounced. Final grade: B. The Bears did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Jermod McCoy fell into slot 89. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
They are betting Gentry proves the room right and everyone else wrong. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Caleb Lomu
In No. 30 they get a building block for the line. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick57
Rnd2
Christen Miller
Christen Miller at pick No. 57 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick89
Rnd3
Jermod McCoy
Jermod McCoy in the Round 3 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick94
Rnd3
Deontae Lawson
A linebacker of that caliber at pick 94 is the definition of value, full stop. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick129
Rnd4
Genesis Smith
They robbed the room for Genesis Smith here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick163
Rnd5
Bud Clark
Bud Clark at Round 5, Pick 25 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick239
Rnd7
Eric Gentry
Eric Gentry at the 239th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It fills a real need, too.
Pick241
Rnd7
Micah Morris
By-the-book stuff, Micah Morris at slot 241 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
