Draft Grade — Bears
Overall B

Good, not great, for the Bears: B.

The Bears did not so much draft Trey Zuhn III as overpay for him, 22 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Reese. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

Interior defensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Arvell Reese
In the Round 1 slot they get a three-down second-level presence at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick57 Rnd2 Caleb Banks
Caleb Banks is a better player than pick 57 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick89 Rnd3 Zakee Wheatley
Zakee Wheatley at pick No. 89 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick129 Rnd4 Skyler Gill-Howard
Skyler Gill-Howard at No. 129 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick177 Rnd5 Trey Zuhn III
They reached into another round for Trey Zuhn III, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick215 Rnd6 J. Michael Sturdivant
They paid sticker price for J. Michael Sturdivant in the 215th pick, and that is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick239 Rnd7 Tony Grimes
Fair-plus on Tony Grimes, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick241 Rnd7 Micah Morris
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Micah Morris. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
