Draft Grade — Bills
Overall B
ValueB+ NeedB TradesA- FutureB-
The Bills let McConkey fall and pounced. Final grade: B.

The rest of the league will want that one back. Ladd McConkey tumbling to the Bills in pick 65 is a gift they did not have to think twice about. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.

They will answer for taking cornerback early while interior defensive lineman, edge rusher and other spots went begging. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. The trade work was a quiet net positive.

On the needs board they went 6 of 9, with linebacker the one that mattered most.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Kool-Aid McKinstry
In pick 31 they get a potential shutdown corner at a price that makes it sweeter. More want than need.
Pick65 Rnd3 Ladd McConkey
Circle this one: Ladd McConkey at the 65th pick is a fall that decides a draft. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick94 Rnd3 Brenden Rice
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Brenden Rice in the 94th overall pick, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick99 Rnd3 Khyree Jackson
A curious use of Round 3, Pick 36. Interior defensive lineman, edge rusher and other spots needed the pick; a cornerback in Khyree Jackson did not.
Pick128 Rnd4 Dillon Johnson
Dillon Johnson in No. 128 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick131 Rnd4 Cole Bishop
Cole Bishop in pick No. 131 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick151 Rnd5 Luke McCaffrey
Luke McCaffrey is a better player than the Round 5 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick165 Rnd5 Braelon Allen
The board had Braelon Allen higher than slot 165, and the running back fell to them anyway. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick168 Rnd5 Ty'Ron Hopper
Steal is underselling it; Ty'Ron Hopper at the 168th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick207 Rnd6 Christian Jones
A tidy bit of business in slot 207, where Christian Jones graded well above the range. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick249 Rnd7 Nathaniel Watson
Nathaniel Watson at Round 7, Pick 29 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
