The Packers cashed the board's mistake on Bertrand: B-.

Somewhere a general manager is explaining how JD Bertrand got past him. The Packers do not have to explain a thing at the 217th overall pick. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.

That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The cost of the Benson reach is exactly the players who went right after him.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Tyler Nubin
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tyler Nubin. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick41 Rnd2 Graham Barton
They liked Graham Barton enough to skip the value, taking him in the 41st pick. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick57 Rnd2 Trey Benson
A premium they did not need to pay, Trey Benson a notch or two before his time. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick88 Rnd3 Malachi Corley
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Malachi Corley in slot 88. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick91 Rnd3 Cooper Beebe
A tidy bit of business in No. 91, where Cooper Beebe graded well above the range. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick125 Rnd4 Javon Foster
No drama and no debate, Javon Foster went about where he belonged in the 125th overall pick. It fills a real need, too.
Pick135 Rnd4 Kris Abrams-Draine
They read the board right and Kris Abrams-Draine was the payoff at pick No. 135. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick203 Rnd6 Austin Stogner
Austin Stogner at pick 203 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick217 Rnd6 JD Bertrand
You do not let a linebacker like JD Bertrand reach the 217th overall pick and blink. They did not. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick219 Rnd6 Jordan Magee
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jordan Magee at pick 219. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick246 Rnd7 Carson Steele
Carson Steele in slot 246 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
