ecarrington061 DRAFTING FOR THEDolphins
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Dolphins
Overall
B
ValueB
NeedA-
TradesB-
FutureB-
Manning is the plan now, and the Dolphins grade out a B. After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Dolphins committed. Arch Manning is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. No fireworks, but a solid B.
However the rest shakes out, Hardy at that price is a win they earned. The Wesco Jr. pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with quarterback chief among the fixes.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick3
Rnd1
Arch Manning
In slot 3 they get their guy under center for the next decade. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick34
Rnd2
Bryant Wesco Jr.
Value said wait; Bryant Wesco Jr. in the 34th overall pick says they were not listening. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick65
Rnd3
Ahmad Hardy
They will replay Ahmad Hardy at pick No. 65 for years; that is how good the value is. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick104
Rnd4
Ty Benefield
Ty Benefield in the Round 4 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick140
Rnd5
Kam Robinson
Kam Robinson in pick 140 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick154
Rnd5
Justin Evans
Justin Evans at the 154th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick180
Rnd6
Walker Lyons
Walker Lyons at No. 180 is money in the bank, a tight end taken below his worth. It fills a real need, too.
Pick247
Rnd7
Sheridan Wilson
They liked Sheridan Wilson enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 7, Pick 26. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick255
Rnd7
Jay'Vion Cole
They paid up for Jay'Vion Cole at slot 255 when waiting would have done the job. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
